In-Progress Projects
My original goals as an author were always books. True to my form as Simon, I cannot just do one project at a time, so these are the projects I’m working on right now:
There Were No Signs: When I came out as queer, and then as trans, everyone seemed super surprised. This surprise has only magnified as I’ve continued to find myself. Except, the thing is, who I am today was very much based in who I have always been. There Were No Signs uses poetry from my teenage and young adult years to highlight that there have always been signs of who I would become.
Dear Dead Mom: My mother is the most complex human in my life. She died in 2010 when I was 21 and her death devastated me and also freed me. At the time, I was deeply religious and I firmly believed in a dictated version of an afterlife that included her existing in the now, so I would talk with her (or at her). And as I did, I felt like she grew with me. Overtime, the mom in my head became a very different version of human than the mom I knew in life and I began jokingly differentiating my mom who I knew in life from the mom in my head by calling the mom in my head “Dead Mom”. This book is a series of letters I have written to my Dead Mom to process my childhood, my hopes, my dreams, my current realities, parenting and anything else that comes up, with the mom I never had.
The Enemy of Pritani: Sci Fi. Set in a future space empire made from the descendents of earth. Very queer. Very trans. Very complex. Also, it’s only book 1 of an entire series, so that’s gonna be fun. (The first draft of book one is done! But I keep getting hung up on draft 2 and feel like some things need to shift to make it work. Editing is fun).
Gayly Ever After: This is an FTM gay romance I am writing with my husband, Tommy. That’s all the info you get (for now).
